I'm not sure that makes sense. It doesn't fulfill the SEC mandate of playing a game every season against a team from a "BCS" conference.
The Southeastern Conference recently mandated that each member school play at least one non-conference game against an opponent from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 or Pac 12 beginning in 2016. Houston, which is a member of the American Athletic Conference, will not fulfill that obligation for Vanderbilt in the 2021 meeting.

Agreed. We've reverted to the moronic CBJ style of scheduling. CJF left so now the ATH dept is in control of scheduling and is screwing it to pieces. The return game in this series isn't until 2021 or something red oculus like that! Oh, and VU opens at Middle next year.......real smart VU. I can't wait for that one..not really.
Seriously worried about who is scheduling games now. Xcjf had control of that. I'm not sure Mason does.

I'm personally excited about playing somebody that draws more interest than Old Dominion or Charleston Southern. Houston is still a team that we should absolutely take care of but it capable of winning games against quality opponents. It looks good if we beat them and they turn around and surprise another good team.

The part that looks bad is that they are not in a BCS conference so a win vs them counts just as much as a win over Old Dominion. In addition the amount of years between the return visit is just bush league and not something any other SEC school would do.
BTW ODU might not interest you but they have one of the best returning QB's in college football. He's really good.

Every game interests me and I'll be watching. I didn't realize they had a really good QB so I'll be sure to keep an eye on him.
Technically, all the games count the same, it's just a more noticable team. I also attribute it to the difficulty of changing schedules on such short notice, which is very difficult. And we can avoid the big payout to a smaller program.
Plus it gives you another inroad into Texas which I have a feeling this staff will put effort into.

A should be win against a should be bowl team. I guess I'm ok with it.
